Shortoff Mountain Retreat is a privately owned mountain chalet near Lake James, Linville Gorge, and Wolf Pit Trailhead. Booking direct allows guests to reserve the same property found on Airbnb, with secure checkout through Lodgify and direct communication with the host.
Please review the policies below before booking. The final price, payment schedule, cancellation terms, and any applicable fees will be shown during checkout before payment is submitted.
Pre-Booking Policies
Payment Deposit
A 50% payment deposit is due at the time of booking to reserve your dates. The remaining balance is due according to the payment schedule shown during checkout.
Your reservation is not confirmed until the required payment has been received and you receive a booking confirmation.
The payment deposit applies toward the total cost of your stay, including the nightly rate, cleaning fee, taxes, and any applicable fees shown at checkout.
Cleaning Fee
A $350 cleaning fee applies to each reservation.
This fee reflects the size of the home, laundry volume, kitchen and bathroom turnover, outdoor spaces, and the work required to prepare the property between guest stays.
Cleaning fees are refundable if the reservation is canceled before check-in, unless otherwise stated during checkout.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation terms are shown during checkout before payment is submitted. Please review them carefully before completing your booking.
Unless otherwise stated during checkout:
- Cancellations made far enough in advance of check-in may be eligible for a full or partial refund.
- Cancellations close to the arrival date may be non-refundable.
- Cleaning fees are refundable if the reservation is canceled before check-in.
- Refunds for weather, illness, travel delays, road conditions, work conflicts, family emergencies, or schedule changes are subject to the cancellation policy in effect at the time of booking.
We strongly recommend travel insurance for guests concerned about weather, illness, travel delays, family emergencies, or other unexpected changes. - If canceled dates are rebooked, we may consider an additional refund at our discretion, but this is not guaranteed.
Damage & Card-on-File Policy
We do not collect a separate security deposit at the time of booking.
Guests are responsible for any damage, missing items, excessive cleaning, unauthorized pets or guests, smoking or vaping inside the home, or other house rule violations that create additional costs.
If damage or additional charges occur, the card on file may be charged through the booking platform after the stay.
Additional charges may apply for:
- Damage to the home, furniture, fixtures, appliances, or outdoor areas
- Missing or damaged linens, towels, kitchen items, games, lake gear, or supplies
- Excessive cleaning beyond normal turnover
- Unauthorized pets
- Unauthorized guests or events
- Smoking or vaping inside the home
- Damage or misuse of paddleboards, inflatable kayaks, grill, fire pit, or outdoor furniture
- Violation of house rules that results in additional cost
Please report accidental damage as soon as possible so we can address it quickly and fairly.
Occupancy & Guest Count
Shortoff Mountain Retreat accommodates up to 12 guests.
The guest count listed on the reservation must accurately reflect the number of guests staying at the property. Unauthorized guests, parties, events, or gatherings are not permitted unless approved in writing before the stay.
The home is best suited for families, multi-family groups, hiking groups, lake-weekend travelers, couples’ retreats, and quiet, small retreats.
Pets
Dogs are welcome and require a $100 non-refundable pet fee per dog. Please contact us before booking to discuss your pet. Unauthorized pets will result in additional cleaning fees or card-on-file charges.
House Rules
- No smoking or vaping inside the home
- No parties, events, or large gatherings
- Respect quiet hours and neighbors
- Follow the check-out instructions provided in the home
- Use outdoor equipment (paddleboards, kayaks, fire pit, grill) safely and responsibly
